Mom & Pop Services is coming up on our first anniversary since we began in August of last year. It's hard to believe it's been 10 months already, when it all began.
I remember like yesterday, sitting in the family room exchanging ideas with Tom about the vision we had for our business. As well as doing a lot of research about legalities, formalities, pricing structure, protocol, and everything else that comes with turning a simple idea into something real and sustainable.
Those early days were full of notebooks, late‑night or super early morning conversations, because you can't sleep with so much on your mind. That mix of excitement and uncertainty that only happens when you’re building something from scratch. We didn’t have all the answers, but we had determination, curiosity, and a belief that if we kept learning and kept showing up, we could create something meaningful.
We saved our money through various stages to accomplish each goal, then again for the next goal...and again for the next. One step at a time we accomplished the necessary needs to do things the right way, the legal way. We got our licensing for the state of Florida, Brevard County and the City of Titusville. Slowly acquired insurance, business bank account, equipment, and supplies. I established a presence online through social media platforms, purchased our URL and built our website. Purchased programs like Canva, Microsoft Office, book keeping software, etc. Designed our estimates, invoices, and other client documents. Wrote our terms and conditions, disclaimers, price lists, etc. And started taking photos as jobs came in, to build a portfolio to document our hard work and quality results.
I designed our business logo with the roof-top and chose our name "Mom & Pop Services" to represent our dual focus for both handyman and cleaning services. I designed and made our business cards, pamphlets, postcards, door hangers, website, social media content, and our work t-shirts to wear. And most recently, I have updated the design of our pamphlets to have a more professional appearance and printed them off today!
Since then, we have grown so much! Looking back now, it’s wild to see how far that little spark has come. What started as conversations in a family room has grown into a business that serves real people, solves real problems, and reflects the heart we put into it. To date, we have served 49 clients in all, many of which are recurring clients for both services, but we are far from done, the story is still being written. We’re still learning, still refining, still growing into the vision we once only talked about.
Every step, the research, the planning, and the trial and error has all become part of the foundation we stand on today. It's a foundation built from integrity, passion, enthusiasm, excitement, due diligence, dedication, and real grit. We look forward to our future yet continue to reflect back to remain humble. To never forget where we came from, but love who we are becoming.
