A close-up look at one of nature’s most impressive nighttime hunters - found somewhere it certainly did not belong. 🦉

Our team safely removed this incredible owl from a chimney and sent it on its way. After the removal, we excluded the chimney to prevent the owl, or another animal, from getting back inside.

🦇 Thinking about installing a bat house on your property?
We get asked about bat houses all the time, and the answer is: it depends.

Bat houses can be a great tool for conservation and natural insect control, but they aren't a guaranteed solution and they need to be installed correctly to work.

👍 Pros
• Natural mosquito and insect control
• Provides valuable habitat for local bat populations
• Can encourage bats to roost outdoors instead of looking for shelter around structures

👎 Cons
• Occupancy is never guaranteed—some bat houses take years to attract a colony
• Proper placement is critical
• May require occasional maintenance and monitoring

📍 In New Hampshire, location matters.

For the best chance of success, bat houses should:

✅ Receive plenty of direct sunlight
✅ Be mounted 10–15 feet high on a building or pole
✅ Face south or southeast
✅ Have open flight access below
✅ Be located near a water source when possible

One thing we always tell homeowners: a bat house is not a bat removal solution. If bats are already living in your attic, chimney, or walls, the structure must first be professionally excluded and secured.

🐾 Critter Check: Day 5 — Siding & Shutters
Decorative shutters may look great on your home... but they can also create the perfect hiding spot for wildlife.
This homeowner had a bat tucked safely behind a shutter, using the narrow gap as a daytime roost. It doesn't take much space for bats to squeeze in, especially when shutters or siding begin to pull away from the house.
🔎 During today's Critter Check, look for:
✔️ Loose or warped shutters
✔️ Siding that's pulling away from the wall
✔️ Gaps around trim and corners
✔️ Staining or droppings beneath shutters or siding
If there's a gap, wildlife will eventually find it. A quick walk around your home today could prevent an unexpected guest tomorrow.

🐿️ **Critter Check: Chimneys**

Ever wonder what it looks like when you're face-to-face with a squirrel on your roof?

This little guy was caught right at the top of the chimney, giving us a front-row seat from the lift. While it makes for a great view, a chimney without the proper protection can quickly become an easy way for wildlife to get into your home.

🔎 During today's Critter Check, take a look at your chimney:
✔️ Is there a sturdy chimney cap?
✔️ Is it damaged or loose?
✔️ Are there gaps where wildlife could squeeze in?

A chimney should vent your fireplace—not provide a penthouse suite for squirrels.

🐾 Critter Check: Day 4 — Crawl Space & Foundation
Think wildlife only gets in through the roof? Think again.
This home had multiple openings in the crawl space, and you can actually see daylight from underneath the house. That's all the invitation a groundhog needed.
Groundhogs are powerful diggers, and once they decide your crawl space is a good place to call home, they can cause structural damage, tear up insulation, and create even bigger access points for other wildlife.
🔎 During today's Critter Check, take a walk around your foundation and look for:
✔️ Gaps or holes in crawl space doors
✔️ Damaged or missing foundation vents
✔️ Signs of digging along the foundation
✔️ Any place you can see daylight where it shouldn't be
A few minutes of checking today can save you a much bigger repair tomorrow.

🐾 **Critter Check: Fascia**
Two in one day because these deserve their own posts!

Your fascia does more than give your roof a finished look—it helps protect your home from the elements and keeps wildlife out.

Over time, water runoff can cause the wood to soften and rot. Raccoons are incredibly strong and know exactly how to take advantage of those weak spots, peeling back damaged fascia to create an entry into your attic.

🔎 During today's Critter Check, inspect your roofline for:
✔️ Soft, rotting, or peeling wood
✔️ Gaps between the fascia and roof
✔️ Water stains or signs of moisture
✔️ Loose sections that could become an easy access point

If your fascia is showing signs of wear, don't wait until wildlife finds it first.

It doesn't take much for a squirrel to make itself at home.

A weak or damaged soffit can quickly become an entry point into your attic. Once squirrels gain access, they can build nests, chew wiring, damage insulation, and leave behind a costly mess.

✔️ Holes or chew marks
✔️ Loose or sagging soffit panels
✔️ Water damage or wood rot
✔️ Staining or debris around the roofline

Small damage today can become a much bigger wildlife problem tomorrow. Catch it early, and you'll save yourself a lot of headaches.
