Not all stone care is created equal — and hiring the wrong company can cost you.

When your marble floor loses its shine, your granite countertop gets scratched, or your travertine holes start to show, you might be tempted to call your regular cleaning crew. But here's the truth: stone restoration requires specialized training, knowledge, and equipment that most janitorial and carpet cleaning companies don't have.

Each type of stone behaves differently. Granite is much harder than marble, so refinishing it takes different tools and techniques. Some pros who work on marble every day won't even touch granite because they know it's outside their skill set. Travertine has those natural holes that need custom-tinted fillers, precise floating techniques, and diamond-pad finishing in multiple grits to get the look right.

Beyond Stone Solutions has been working exclusively with natural stone since 1976. We've seen what happens when well-meaning but unqualified companies try to "upsell" stone services they're not trained to perform — and we've fixed a lot of those mistakes.

If your stone needs repair, refinishing, sealing, or deep restoration, make sure you're hiring a contractor who specializes in natural stone — not just someone who cleans floors.

When granite gets scratched, most homeowners assume there's nothing they can do short of replacing the entire slab. But professional stone restoration can bring even damaged granite back to a like-new finish — and that's exactly what we did for this Mesa family.

They had scratches on the granite vanities in both bathrooms. Granite is one of the hardest natural stones, so scratching it isn't easy — but once it happens, only contractors with the right tools and training can properly refinish the surface.

Our process started with careful masking and protection of the surrounding areas. Then we honed the stone to remove the scratches, followed by a multi-step polishing sequence using progressively finer diamond pads engineered specifically for granite. The hardness that makes granite so durable also makes it challenging to refinish, but our craftsmen have been at this since 1976 — they know exactly which tools and techniques will deliver a flawless, reflective finish without causing further damage.

The homeowners were thrilled. What had been a daily eyesore in two bathrooms is now polished, elegant, and completely restored.

If your granite has seen better days, don't assume replacement is your only option. Let our team show you what's possible with expert restoration. Learn more at beyondstonesolutions.com/services/

Limestone looks beautiful—until it doesn't. And in wet areas like showers, "doesn't" can mean disintegration.

Limestone is a sedimentary stone formed from shell, coral, and algal debris. It's soft, elegant, and works beautifully in most interior spaces: floors, walls, fireplace surrounds, kitchen counters (with care). But it has three vulnerabilities that make it a poor match for constantly wet environments:

**Iron content.** Limestone contains iron that oxidizes when exposed to water, creating rust stains that are often permanent—because the iron is *inside* the stone, not on it.

**Porosity.** Even when sealed, limestone is highly porous. Water enters the pores, reacts with salts in the mortar bed, and when it dries, those salts recrystallize and create pressure. The result? Spalling—peeling, flaking, cracking. In steam showers, the v***r penetrates even deeper than liquid water, condensing inside the stone and breaking it down from within.

**Solubility.** Limestone contains calcium carbonate and organic matter that are water-soluble. Constant water exposure can literally dissolve the stone.

This isn't an installation problem or a quality issue. It's chemistry. The Natural Stone Institute recommends only certain classes of limestone for wet use—and even then, with caution.

Bottom line: if you're planning a renovation or dealing with a limestone issue, material selection matters as much as craftsmanship.

The La Rue family reached out to Beyond Stone Solutions with a request that went beyond typical stone care—they wanted to restore a headstone and memorial stone in Arrowhead Gardens, Glendale, that had become nearly unreadable.

Years of Arizona sun and mineral-rich water had taken their toll. Thick calcium deposits obscured the granite's natural beauty, and UV exposure had faded the engraved letters to the point where the tributes were barely legible. For the family, this wasn't just about aesthetics—it was about preserving the memory of someone they loved.

Our craftsmen began with a careful deep cleaning, using specialized professional solutions to dissolve the calcium buildup without harming the stone itself. Granite is durable, but memorial work requires an extra level of precision and care.

To restore the engraved letters, we applied Lithichrome Stone Paint—a product formulated with sunlight-resistant pigments and resins specifically designed for outdoor monument restoration. The result: the tributes were once again bright, clear, and legible.

For nearly 50 years, our team has handled restoration projects throughout the Phoenix area—from countertops to floors to irreplaceable memorial stones. It was our privilege to help the La Rue family honor their loved one with a restoration that will last for years to come.

If you have a stone restoration project—no matter how unique—we'd be honored to help.

Jerusalem limestone is gorgeous—rustic colors, rich texture, timeless appeal. But it's also one of the most misunderstood stones in the industry.

If you're selecting natural stone for countertops, flooring, or walls and considering Jerusalem Gold, Jerusalem Gray Gold, or Jerusalem Pearl, here's what you should know before you commit:

Jerusalem limestone is soft and porous. That means it scratches more easily than granite or quartzite, and if it's not sealed properly, spills can quickly become permanent stains. It's also a calcite-based stone, which makes it vulnerable to etching from acidic substances—think lemon juice, vinegar, wine, even some cleaning products.

Some varieties that contain a lot of fossils may be prone to spalling (surface flaking or peeling), and the stone's density can be inconsistent, so it's not ideal for very high-traffic areas.

The upside? With the right care, Jerusalem limestone can look stunning for decades. Professional deep cleaning, sealing, and restoration make a huge difference. Most stains can be removed, and surface damage can be honed and polished away by a skilled restoration team.

If you already have Jerusalem limestone or you're weighing your options, this article walks through everything you need to know about durability, maintenance, and professional care.

This marble top in Scottsdale had been beautiful once—but years of daily use and zero professional upkeep left it dull, scratched, and stripped of the reflectivity that makes marble so luxurious.

The homeowners called Beyond Stone Solutions, and we got to work.

After carefully masking and protecting the surrounding surfaces, our team used hand tools mounted with diamond pads to hone the marble. Here's what most people don't realize: honing removes only a very thin upper layer of the stone—just enough to erase the damage and reveal the pristine marble underneath. It's like peeling away years of wear to uncover the brand-new stone that's been there all along.

From there, we moved through progressively finer grit diamond pads, refining the surface until it reached a beautiful, glossy polished finish. Our final step was applying a high-quality sealer to inhibit staining and protect the stone going forward.

When we finished, the marble looked brand new. Our clients were thrilled—and honestly, so were we. There's something deeply satisfying about taking a piece of natural stone that's been neglected and restoring it to the luxurious surface it was meant to be.

For nearly 50 years, our team has been bringing Arizona's natural stone back to life. If your marble has lost its shine, we'd love to help.

A beautiful fountain should be a showpiece — but when mineral-rich water runs constantly, calcium buildup can turn cantera and tile into a discolored, crusty mess. That's exactly what happened to this fountain in a Scottsdale outdoor living area.

The homeowners faced a dilemma: traditional cleaning methods weren't strong enough to remove the scale, but harsh chemicals could permanently damage the porous cantera surface and the delicate tile work.

That's where proper restoration expertise makes all the difference. Our technicians used a media blasting process — precise, chemical-free, and designed specifically for natural stone and tile. We carefully removed every layer of calcium buildup without harming the underlying surfaces. Then we cleaned the grout lines and tiles in the small pool area, and once everything was fully dry, we sealed both the cantera and the grout to make future maintenance easier and more successful.

Family-owned since 1976, Beyond Stone Solutions has restored thousands of Arizona fountains, patios, and outdoor stone features. This kind of work requires patience, the right equipment, and decades of hands-on experience with the Southwest's unique water and climate challenges.

The fountain is now fully restored — back to being the elegant focal point it was always meant to be. Our clients were thrilled with the transformation.

These Phoenix homeowners loved their travertine floors — but over time, the reality set in. High-traffic areas like the kitchen, entryway, and hallway to the garage had lost their luster. Dirt and grime had worked their way deep into the grout lines, and regular sweeping and mopping just weren't cutting it anymore.

They reached out to Beyond Stone Solutions for a professional deep clean.

We started by applying commercial-grade cleaning solutions and allowing ample dwell time — a step that's easy to skip but critical for loosening embedded contaminants. The grout lines needed extra care, so we hand-scrubbed each one with soft bristle brushes to lift stubborn buildup without damaging the stone. Then we brought in our powerful (but gentle) floor machines to accomplish what home tools simply can't: a true deep clean that reaches below the surface.

Room by room, we restored the stone's natural warmth and beauty. Our final step was applying a professional-grade sealer to help inhibit staining and keep the floors looking fresh longer.

For nearly 50 years, our team has helped Arizona families rediscover the stone they fell in love with. This Phoenix travertine transformation is a great reminder: sometimes your floors don't need replacing — they just need the right care.

Scratched marble. Chipped travertine. Floors that once anchored a room now quietly embarrass it.

For nearly 50 years, Beyond Stone Solutions has helped Scottsdale and Phoenix homeowners bring natural stone floors back from wear, damage, and years of foot traffic. Our refinishing and repair process starts with an honest assessment: What's the material? What's the damage? What finish will protect it in Arizona's dry, high-UV climate?

From there, our craftsmen apply techniques tailored to the surface — whether it's marble needing a fresh protective seal, travertine with cracked and stained grout, or structural issues that compromise safety and appearance. We don't template the work. Every stone floor gets the method it needs.

Our team trains regularly in the latest Surface Care PROS protocols, and we use commercial-grade tools and protective coatings designed for high-traffic environments. That means durability you can walk on — literally — for years.

We also offer preventative maintenance strategies: the right cleaning products, periodic inspections, protective treatments that extend the life of your investment. It's the kind of care that keeps stone floors looking sharp between services.

If your floors have lost their edge — or their safety — let's talk. Visit beyondstonesolutions.com/services/ to schedule a consultation. We'll walk the space with you (pun intended) and map out a plan that makes sense.

Your floors deserve more than a quick fix. They deserve craft.
