On this carpet cleaning job we did in Temecula we had severe soil. The customers were older and haven't had it cleaned in years. It was hard to figure why it was just so black but my thought is they were carrying a lot of soil from dragging shoes from pergo floors. So the soil all ended up in the bedrooms.

Time and issues kept them from getting to it and they told me they decided to clean it since replacing keeps being put off. This really shows that sometimes it's best just to maintain things right until the day you replace.

So in the first picture I show you the absolute heaviest of soil. You can also see a picture of my rotary scrubber in the middle of the room. Pre scrubbing is mandatory for a room with this much soil.

I started by scrubbing that room down really well I even upped the chemical to nuclear level. The second picture shows after heavy steam cleaning which rinses all that chemical and soil out and leaves it nice and residue free.

No it's not perfect but when the furniture goes back it really won't be that noticeable nor embarrassing when the family comes over.

The customer was ecstatic and ended up giving me quite a tip and it really is satisfying to make such huge carpet cleaning improvements.

In the last Couple weeks I had two carpet repair jobs that I recommended carpet replacement due to extreme damage.

The rule we repairmen follow is multiple large repairs in worn carpet will be noticeable and the better quality will have thicker fibers to hide the repair.

So here I'll mention one of these two jobs. it was lesser quality and worn so the repair with a new piece would stick out as it would be fluffy piece next to a flat discolored piece. It was multiple as it had four different repairs in the same room. They were large each 3 foot by 3 foot damaged areas.

So here is a picture of a single mid sized repair in a worn lesser quality carpet that I did do this week. Yes it looks much better but the fluffy new carpet in this heavily worn cheaper carpet is noticeable as it creates a mohawk effect of fresh taller carpet next to the low thin sides of the older carpet.

While its better then replacing I could see if it was bigger and there were 4 more of them or the customer wanted perfection it probably would be better to replace the room.

On this job in Temecula we stretched the carpet then cleaned then cleaned the tile.

On this carpet repair near Temecula, the customer had a dog that tore the carpet about 4 ft in. He also chewed up the padding and the edge where it joined the laminate.

Now usually when a dog tears the carpet they completely destroy the piece they tore. But this dog was quite considerate and the tear was pretty clean. So after I installed new padding and got the floor all nice and prepared I seamed that 4 ft tear back together then just patched a 1 inch by 4 inch piece at the edge.

One of the questions I often get is can we just seam it back together, and while I pulled this to join it more cleanly I'm limited to how much I can pull. So I can't technically cut fresh edges. This means if there's any loss it would need a fresh strip to go in there to join the two sections. This new strip is often noticeable due to wear differences and often looks like a mohawk strip down the repair.

So in this case we were quite lucky.

On this Temecula job, we did for a person out of state, we restretched and cleaned the carpet. The loft had that typical problem of needing to replace the doorway seams to enable its carpet stretching.

You see on hallways and lofts they usually connect on their sides to doorways. So in order to stretch them I have to split the seams, stretch them from both directions, nail them in place, cut the overlap off, and then finnally seam it back together.

So the first picture shows that overlap created from stretching, and it's a bit over an inch. Now its time to cut off that overlap and seam it together. Its a bit tricky to make an invisible seam on used carpet. You have to avoid cutting bent face fibers and make sure the edges match perfectly.

So on the second picture it shows the completely invisible seam. My son later came to do the carpet cleaning and he was able to remove some complicated stains as well.

On this carpet stretching near Temecula the customer had a single room in his house that was quite loose the frequent question comes what caused it.

So we usually think of a large room like the living room or master bedroom or connected areas such as a hallway where it's harder for the installer to stretch to get loose, but here it is a nice small 10x12 room. Yet no other rooms were loose.

So what caused it well here is an example of wear causing it to loosen The other carpets were not worn this was his office and was the most used room in the house. The carpet is also incredibly thin backed so a poor quality so that probably explains it.

It's also possible this room was simply not stretched or was done by The apprentice. But pulling over an inch in a small room like this where you can see the wrinkles were huge before and now there's none leads me to the belief that it can just be the carpet not the installation.

Now the customer just needs to have us clean it.

Recently my feed has been filled with carpet cleaners. Perhaps it's more common to share videos on Facebook now. One of the carpet cleaners was struggling with his hose flopping down the stairs.

A comment mentioned he needed to buy a Velcro hose holder. I used one once it didn't really work that well it was too slippery for the hose to hold on to and was still slide through the grip nor was it any faster than a simple cord. So I thought I'd show what I've used to hold the hose for the last 30 years.

The important thing isn't just that it's pulling against you because the vacuum is trying to tighten the hose whenever the wand it's pressing down onto the carpet.

The second important thing is when the hose is seesawing it's rubbing on everything down the length which could be a wall or an edge and even with corner protectors it could still rub high on the wall or knock them over so here's the video.

On this scheduled carpet repair and cleaning near Temecula a customer sent me this photo along with two other bad seams.

He had done everything right on his room restretch. But he needed to do a seam so he had used seam sealer and a seeming iron but he made a terrible seam. He asked if anything could be done.

He mentioned how the seam sealer had gotten into the fiber and made it all stiff and pop up and he kept trying to push it back down. Basically a task that's even hard for a professional and so many tricks are involved I really could feel his struggle.

So when you stretch carpet you try and pull it away from a doorway seam towards the other side of the room. Redoing a seam is quite tricky and totally unnecessary with the exception of doing a hall stretch where it ends in a doorway. Many people want to just leave the furniture in place and pull it towards the doorway but they don't realize how hard new seams are.

So on this carpet I will have to split the seam heat it from the back to remove the seaming tape (you cant seam on top of old seaming tape) pull it towards the split from both directions nail it temporarily, get a nice clean cut on both sides down a row without cutting any face fibers. Even making sure there's not extra backing as some cornrows are quite wide.

While he did say he stretched the carpet so I won't have quite so much extra to get a clean line what gives me hope about this picture is I see a little looseness bubble just passed it which shows that I should be able to get it tighter and a sharper edge before I redo the seam.

So the purpose of this post is to explain that perhaps the hardest part of a carpet stretch are seams and just stay away from them.
