Fenders only work at the right height. Set them where the hull actually meets the dock or piling through tide change, not only at the tide when you tied up.
Add coverage for beam seas and weekend traffic wakes. One lonely fender amidships is how gelcoat picks up black rub marks.
After a cold front shift, walk the dock and adjust. Wind that flipped overnight moves the contact point.
Practical, calm, and cheaper than a buff out.
