Florida's first genuinely cold nights usually show up around late November, and that's when everyone remembers the fireplace exists. Worth knowing now rather than then: NFPA 211 calls for chimneys, fireplaces and vents to be inspected at least once a year, with an exception for Type B and Type BW gas venting systems. Salt air and year-round humidity are hard on a flue even when nobody's burning anything. Six weeks is plenty of time to get it looked at without joining the queue.
