Mental health emergencies can become overwhelming very quickly…
And in moments like these, even small actions can help create a calmer and safer environment for someone in crisis.
Leon County EMS recently shared important reminders for supporting individuals during mental health emergencies while waiting for first responders to arrive.
Simple reassurance, staying calm, and reducing stress around the situation can sometimes make a bigger difference than people realize.
Be sure to check out these helpful tips shared by Leon County EMS during Mental Health Awareness Month.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Calling 9-1-1 for a mental health emergency can be a high-stress moment for everyone involved. While our Leon County EMS crews are on the way, here are three ways you can help support the person in crisis:
Stay Calm: Your calmness can help lower the person’s anxiety. Your tone and body language set the stage.
Clear the Space: Remove extra noise, bright lights, or crowds if possible.
Simple Reassurance: Let them know, "Help is on the way, and I am staying here with you."
Your safety and well-being are our priority. Our goal is to provide a calm, safe space and help you navigate the next steps. We’re on our way to help, and we’re in this together.
