We are currently monitoring this maternal bat colony to determine when the juveniles are old enough to perform an exclusion. Sorry for the wiggly camera, it’s hard to film while holding onto a ladder.
Bats are a protected species and we have to be cautious about the dates that we perform this kind of work. In Georgia, we have a little bit of flexibility, and if we can verify that the juveniles are mobile and able to exit the roost, then we can exclude them. These juveniles are likely 3 to 5 weeks old, and we are checking on them weekly to observe their progress. They have about two more weeks until they can fly.
If we were across the state line in Florida for this job, we wouldn’t be able to touch these guys at all until August 16.
