A common misconception is that you need large trees nearby to have clogged gutters. Not true!

This customer recently had a new roof installed and was concerned their gutters needed to be realigned because water was overflowing during rainstorms. After an inspection, we found the real culprit: roof granules. When a new roof is installed, loose granules naturally wash down into the gutters and can create a bed of sand that settles in the trough and clogs the downspouts.

It doesn’t take much debris to block a downspout. Once that happens, water backs up, rises in the gutter, and can overflow onto the roof edge. Over time, that trapped moisture can damage fascia boards, siding, roof decking, and lead to costly repairs.

Regular gutter maintenance isn’t just for homes surrounded by trees—it’s an important part of protecting your roof and home investment.
