Harford County residents can take their residential yard trim to either the Harford Mulch and Compost Facility or the Tollgate Residential Yard Trim Drop-off.
They accept brush and bush trimmings, grass clippings, leaves, and more! Free for residents.

Both the Harford Mulch and Compost Facility and the Tollgate Residential Yard Trim Drop-off are open until 3:00pm on operating days. Please arrive by 2:45pm.

Here’s a quick guide to recycling the right way in Harford County:

✔️ One container
✔️ No sorting
✔️ Paper, cardboard, bottles, cans & glass all together

🚫 Plastic bags (biggest offender)
🚫 Greasy pizza boxes
🚫 Clamshell fruit containers (those clear berry boxes)
🚫 Wax-coated cardboard (produce boxes, shiny boxes)
🚫 Food, liquids, and dirty items
🚫 Hoses, cords, hangers (they tangle machines)

👉 👉 Helpful tip: If it’s clean, rigid, and empty, it’s usually recyclable.
If it’s dirty, soft/flimsy, or can tangle equipment, it’s best to throw it away.

Quick rule:
When in doubt, throw it out!! contamination ruins entire loads.
