Sometimes the smallest lives teach us the biggest lessons.
Three weeks ago today, this little guy then only a day or so old landed into my world.
Meet Licorice, the official Houck Family Services office baby.
Caring for Licorice has reminded me that love isn't always just something we feel but something we do.
Love means showing up, being patient, nurturing, comforting and celebrating every bit of progress. When we truly care, another's needs become important to us. We give our time, we protect, we give a piece of our heart without realizing it.
Whether we are caring for a kitten, a friend, an aging parent, a client or someone who needs kindness....LOVE makes us caregivers.
Caring for others is one of the most beautiful ways to show love.

Little Licorice, he may be tiny but has taught me so much and is a reminder that if we simply let love flow from us, it truly does conquer all.

If you are caring for someone you love, even if they no longer know your name... remember, the heart always remembers.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend,
With gratitude,

Patti

To our amazing caregivers.......

Good morning everyone,
Spending time in hospice teaches us that in a moment life can change very quickly. This week we lost a very dear client that we cared for and spent time with for quite sometime. It doesn't feel right calling them a client because they become so much more than that to us. They become our friends, our extended family, a source of wisdom and quite honestly a part of our day.
They listen to our stories, sometimes even offering advice and just become a part of our lives.
I have learned over the years that we walk into the clients life to care for them and somehow they end up caring for us too.

Our hearts our heavy this week as we lost someone very special but so blessed that we had the opportunity to care for this beautiful soul....and their family.

Today and everyday we are thankful for every conversation, every visit that we are able to do.
Our daily visits, when they pass are now treasured memories of the great people we serve.
Life is short, life is precious so love people while they are here.
Take the time and listen... share a laugh and if you open your heart to these precious souls, I tell you will be blessed abundantly.

Caring for someone living with Dementia

The best caregivers don't just care for someone-they care about them. They bring calm into uncertain moments, laughter into ordinary days and companionship when it is needed most.

Care with patience
Lead with compassion
Be guided by grace

In a world of change, be the constant kindness.....

Alzheimer's can bring a kind of grief that is difficult to put into words. The person you love is still beside you, still deserving of every hug, every gentle word and every moment of connection-even as parts of them begin to change.

During World Alzheimer's Month, we want families walking through this journey to know they are not alone.

At Houck Family Services, we believe care is more than helping with everyday needs. it is about preserving dignity, offering companionship, supporting families and finding meaningful moments in every day.

-Hold their hand
-Meet them where they are
-Treasure the moments you still share
-Remember that love remains

To everyone loving someone through this, we see you, we support you and are here for you.
