"Forgiveness doesnโt often feel like a win. You might think the one you forgive is getting away with their wrongdoingโthat if you forgive them, itโs as if youโre turning a blind eye and theyโre not responsible for their actions. Especially when they donโt 'deserve' or donโt even want your forgiveness, the feeling that youโre 'losing' by forgiving them is often amplified.โ
โ
The good news is the way it seems is not reality. First, forgiveness is the right move for many reasons, one being itโs what God calls us to. Secondly, wrongdoers will be held accountable, just not by you.โ
โ
๐ Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for Godโs wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. โ Romans 12:19โ
โ
You can rest assured that God sees the entire situation and He knows your heart. He knows the sting of betrayal youโve felt, the abuse youโve experienced, or the long lasting ache of pain. Your forgiveness doesnโt dismiss their wrong actions or mean they wonโt face consequences (in fact, you may need to take action by getting help, reporting to the authorities, or find safety); rather, what matters is your heart attitude in dealing with their sin. โ
โ
When you forgive, you are trusting the Lord to hold the offender accountable, and it frees you from the snare of bitterness."โ
