Sick or removed trees are the biggest lure for your St. Louis moles. It's like a magnet pulling moles in. Trapping usually won't help as they're usually way too deep to target. But even worse, the roots are actually a Mole Magnet so the rest of the moles in your neighborhood are just waiting for these moles to die so they can have their turn to infest.
