It always hits harder when it’s close to home.
A huge inspiration for our new low cost hoarding support is our grandpa. Last year when he got sick we raced to St Louis to visit him at the hospital. We decided to stay at his place due to the unexpected trip. The first pictures are what we walked into.
While I knew it was was gonna be rough, I didn’t anticipate it to be so hard to walk. It broke my heart. Knowing he had been living like this all by himself. He was a very stubborn (Ta**us) man so of course he didn’t ask for help and insisted on living like this most of his life. He also was not financially capable of paying for help.
The moment we got settled in and took a good look around we had to do something. We didn’t have much time but we were able to blast through his kitchen, living room, and one bedroom! We could walk and had somewhere to sleep. I wish we had gotten in sooner so he had time to enjoy his cleaner space. But I am thankful to have gotten through what we did. Not knowing him most of my life I realized very quickly by going through his things that we are much more alike than I ever knew. Which is exactly why helping other people in his situation is so important to us.
Your home is your sanctuary. The place you want to look forward to going back to at the end of everyday. Your safe space.
