Today, on 9/11, Iβm remembering the Americans who lost their lives, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the people who ran toward danger to help complete strangers.
I was in school when the terrorist attacks happened. Our teachers stopped class, turned on the news, and we watched. It was confusing and scary. We didnβt fully understand what was happening yet. We just knew something terrible was unfolding, and we sat there helplessly watching it happen.
We will never be able to change what happened that day. But those of us who are still here get to decide what we do with the days weβve been given.
And maybe one of the best ways we can honor lives that were lost is simply to choose good.
Weβre human. We have human emotions. Some days we hate our jobs. Sometimes we take our families for granted. We lose our patience, say things we shouldnβt, judge people too quickly, or simply fail to recognize what we have.
So today, Iβm challenging myselfβand all of usβto reframe the way we live our everyday lives.
Love your work by caring about the people you serve.
Love your family by showing them kindness and using kind words, especially when it would be easier not to.
Love humanity by serving others, helping when you can, and doing what is right even when doing what is right is hard.
Every morning we wake up and take another breath, we have been given another day. I believe that is a gift from Godβa chance to be a little better today than we were yesterday.
We may not be able to change the past, but with our own two hands, our words, our choices, and whatever resources we have been blessed with, we can make someone elseβs life a little better.
Live with gratitude. Serve your community. Love your family. Help your neighbor. Choose kindness. Choose good.
That is how I want to honor those who no longer have the opportunity to wake up today and do those things themselves.
Never forget. πΊπΈ
