Get organized with no judgments! Do you not get help organizing because you are ashamed to let anyone see your home? Don’t let that stop you another day!
I too was living that life at one time. I am a recovering hoarder! Lol A recovering hoarder that still has many relapses. Life gets busy and you just keep – “'l will just put this in here for right now....”
Remember everything has a place, and everything goes in its place for a reason – to make your life easier. Yes, it takes a couple of extra seconds, maybe even minutes, but it is worth it in the end.
What prompted my first biggest decluttering was when my grandparents died in a tragic car accident. They were just going to town. The breakfast dishes were still in the sink. They would be back in just a few hours... to never return home.
It took us SIX MONTHS to clean out their house. There were so many things brand new still in boxes just stacked up in rooms. A couple of rooms from floor to ceiling!!
But what really did it for me was when my adult daughter sent me a TikTok video of a young woman who had to clean out her dad’s house after he died. And how hard it was for her. I didn't want to do that to my kids.
In May 2023, I went on a massive cleaning spree - I literally got rid of almost HALF of all of my items. In this case I was donating everything I got rid of to a garage sale for a mission trip to Africa that my church members were going on. So, every time I picked something up and couldn't decide whether or not to let it go, I reminded myself of the reason that I was donating to! It made it SO much easier. Also, someone else could use the item instead of it just sitting inside of a box.
Maybe you don't have a mission trip to donate to - maybe you want a specific item that you could use the money to buy for yourself. Have a garage sale or place it on Market place.
Don't get me wrong - I still have too much today! I am still a work in progress! But - that is okay!
If I were only allowed to say one thing to the person that I am organizing for it would have to be
you DO NOT have to get rid of even one thing that you don't want to. BUT - you must find a place for it.
What does YOUR end goal look like? This is your space not mine. So, this does require you to be there to have the space the way you want it. The way that it serves the purpose that you want it to.
Just know that it is going to look worse before we get done. Because you must pull everything out to see exactly what you must deal with. This is going to be overwhelming at first, but it is going to be okay - that is what I am here for. It is going to look amazing when completed!
