September marks 10 years of Xtreme Clean “going above and beyond your cleanest expectations.”

What started with just $500 and a vacuum has grown into a thriving business with seven employees serving residential and commercial clients. Founder Contresse Harris built Xtreme Clean with persistence and faith. She recalls the early days of going out every Friday without a client on the books, and the pride of making it through challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. To celebrate a decade in business, Xtreme Clean hosted an anniversary party at The Brick in downtown South Bend, where employees, family, friends and community partners gathered to honor the milestone. At the celebration, every team member was recognized with an award, and the night was filled with music, dancing, and gratitude, especially for the employees. Contresse said, “Without you guys, I would be nothing.”

Contresse participated in the South Bend Entrepreneurship and Adversity Program (SBEAP) as part of her entrepreneurial journey. Although already a seasoned entrepreneur, she saw the program as an opportunity to grow after stepping fully into entrepreneurship. She completed the bootcamp and mentorship phases of SBEAP and is now excited to begin working with students during the consulting phase. She credits SBEAP with sharpening her financial discipline, teaching the importance of knowing her numbers, and, perhaps most importantly, boosting her confidence as an entrepreneur and leader. The mentorship, networking, and insights she gained, especially from Dr. Morris, influence how she runs her business today. Her advice for others considering SBEAP is simple: “Do it. Do it, do it, do it.” Even seasoned entrepreneurs like herself, she says, will find fresh perspectives, encouragement to keep moving forward, and learn a whole lot.
