I’m not too big on sharing this type of thing, especially on my hunting page but I feel like this is deserved… ESPECIALLY on my hunting page but. Kevin was partially responsible for me going hog hunting for the first time, I caught my first live deer with him. Dazey, the dog that’s on our logo came from him, so did Dixie. He is the reason (lent me the cash I didn’t have on hand) I bought Axel. Went c**n hunting my first (and last) time with him. I had many, many good times with him and honestly I’ve grieved this friendship already partially but he will certainly be missed. I don’t think I’ve ever met another soul that was universally liked quite like Kevin (and never ran into many people that he didn’t like as well. Best storyteller I’ve ever met. Eternally grateful for his friendship!

A couple videos Thurman did a couple weekends back… #1

A little on the long side but I feel it’s pretty good quality. Gives a glimpse into the nightmare Helene created and some of the odd situations we get into hunting.

So obviously I’m super far behind. Ended up with 27 deer this year. I’ll post a few pictures of the end of the season plus a few from the hogs we’ve caught so far. 11 I think in 5-6 trips. Had Zach and 4 of his Navy buddies one weekend, no hogs but they got to see some cool stuff (including the dogs catching a buck… best I could figure maybe he’d been hit by a car). I’ll post a video too. It’s not riveting but maybe the best quality video we’ve done to date, enjoy!

So obviously I’m way behind like usual. This post will briefly cover #17-24. Nothing all that noteworthy on a couple and a few does but I’ll try to hit the highlights…
#17- dead doe, 75 yards
#18- bowshot doe, 65 yards
#19- nice buck, around 30 hours old, 250 yards, had another dog on it, short work for Gypsy
#20- interesting scenario but to make it as short as possible, I was out of town so my brother took it. Tracked it 6-700 yards in a loop, ran across a major state highway and he saw the deer running across the highway, saw the dog right on him according to the gps so took off running on foot expecting the dog to pass him any minute. Got close to the deer and it turned and squared off with him, still no dog. Ended up catching and killing the deer before Gypsy showed up… turns out there was a fence at the highway that the deer had jumped but she couldn’t get over 😂
#21-22, same hunter, 2 deer, 65 yards in opposite directions
#23- 58’… no blood
#24- 75 yards, dead doe, today

#16 was last Friday morning, around 110 yards, doa, as was #17, 81 yards, Sunday evening.

#12 and not-so-lucky #13…
12 was about as simple as it gets. Gut shot, 115 yards, dead. 13 was anything but simple. My brother called and said my nephew had shot a deer and was certain he’d hit it but had no blood. It’s only about a mile from my house so I slid on some shoes, grabbed the tracker and headed over. As soon as I put Gypsy down she immediately left, crossed the creek bottom, started along a cutover ridge and crossed the dirt road about 75 yards and showed treed (about 400 yards total). We hurried over and just before we got to her she broke and started to us, when I saw her she was absolutely covered in blood (which isn’t necessarily unusual in this line of work, but very unusual for her not to be with the deer). Anyway, I noticed she was pouring blood so I got her collars off and got pressure (which was hard since it was right beside her windpipe and I was cutting off her air and she was already shocky). Turns out her jugular was knicked but I got the bleeding stopped and got her in the truck and got Blue out and put him on the track. He tracked him 200 yards and caught him in the edge of a little 1/4 acre pond. Before we got there he got shook and the deer swam across the pond, maybe 30 yards. It took some time and some work but between Forrest and Blue and I we finally got him hemmed up enough for Forrest to get his hands on him and that was ballgame. Got her looked over this morning and gonna keep her as immobile as possible for the next 5 days and hope that clot will stay situated but she’s a trooper and I’m very thankful that she’s ok.
