Today Dakota Bedbug Detection wraps-up Bedbug Awareness Week with Survival Sunday.
DBD hopes you have found this week-long journey helpful.
Today is all about understanding that there are options, should you find bedbugs in your home or belongings.
Nobody can determine what’s right for you but you! After our inspection we are able to discuss exactly what you are up against and give you our best advice. We are, however, fully aware that everyone’s tolerance when it comes to bedbugs is different, everyone’s financial resources are different, and everyone’s ability or willingness to do the work themselves is different, we consider all of these things to help you make the best decision for your circumstances.
The choices available and needed are far too broad to completely list. There are steps you can take on your own, there are extermination options and there are preventative measures that can bring you comfort before or after an exposure.
In the end, know that DBD will walk beside you in all of it!

Welcome to Save Me Saturday and Dakota Bedbug Detection.
Today is all about the services DBD offers - Inspection, Detection, & Education.
Inspection
While beagles are, for a number of reasons, a perfect breed for bedbug detection, there are places a beagle's nose can't go.
DBD will do a thorough visual inspection looking for bedbugs and also signs of potential bedbugs (f***l matter, shed exoskeletons, carcasses).
Detection
The main job of a canine handler is to give their dog the opportunity to be successful.
This is done by guiding them through the space and looking for behavioral changes. Those changes could be the initial step of a detection alert.
An alert will only occur when the beagle has detected a bedbug in any of its life-stages, including the egg.
Education
DBD will not leave a client's location until all of their questions are answered (remediation options, prevention, etc.).
Be on lookout for Survival Sunday when we share these insights.Like & Follow DBD for additional information.

Welcome to Freaked-Out Friday & Dakota Bedbug Detection.
Yes, that is a jar filled with bedbugs!!
A proverb from Zaire - My house burned down, but at least it got rid of the bedbugs.
Today will be a combination Fears&Facts.
Fear - They are everywhere!!
Fact - You have probably been in contact with a bedbug.
Fear - They are impossible to get rid of!!
Fact - A bedbugs only defense is hiding.
Fear - If you see one, you have thousands!!
Fact - A female bedbug can only reproduce once she becomes fertilized as an adult (see yesterday's post). Once this occurs, she could lay approximately 5-7 eggs a day (assuming an easily available food supply).
Fear - They can feed and hide on my pet!!
Fact - The mouth parts of a bedbug make it extremely difficult to bite a furry friend.
Fear - They carry diseases just like mosquitoes!!
Fact - Bedbugs do not transmit disease. But you could have an allergic reaction to the histamine they use to keep the blood from clotting while they feed.

What to look for Wednesday from Dakota Bedbug Detection
"So, I followed all the guidance from Travel Tip Tuesday. When I looked at the mattress this is what I saw. What am I looking at?"
Those dark spots that look like someone took a Sharpie marker to the mattress are very likely bedbug p**p, or f***l matter if you prefer. This is an indicator that at some point in time there were bedbugs living on this mattress.
Have we grossed you out yet?

Travel Tip Tuesday from Dakota Bedbug Detection
If you can't pack your own Bedbug Detection Dog when you take a trip, here are some tips to help....
Preparation
1) If you traveled recently, use a flashlight and visually inspect your suitcase. Since you already have a flashlight, you might as well pack it.
2) Pack a couple garbage bags to isolate your dirty clothes or anything you might be concerned about.
Arrival
1) Place everything you brought on top of the dresser or in the bathroom (avoid the bed and the luggage rack).
2) If there is a bedspread and blanket, rather than a white duvet with a removable cover, remove them from the bed and place them in a corner of the room away from the bed and your belongings. Now use your flashlight to look for bedbugs. Focus on the piping on the edge of the mattress and boxspring.
Returning Home
1) Empty your luggage before bringing it to your bedroom (e.g., garage, mud room, laundry room).
2) If you have concerns, put your clean clothes in the dryer and run it for 15 minutes as hot as the clothes will allow. Wash and dry all dirty clothes and check the lint trap of the dryer for dead bedbugs.
Call DBD if you have concerns!
