There's a Porsche up on the bench this week, and Joe's working through the timing chains.

The plastic guides that hold the cam chains in place wear down over time. Once they do, you'll hear a slight rattle from the top end and the car sets camshaft deviation codes — the kind of thing that sends people in circles if they don't know what they're looking at. Joe found the worn guide and went to work. To get to it, the whole engine and transaxle come out of the car.

It's involved work, and the kind of job a lot of shops around here would rather pass on. We're not other shops. These cars are something we enjoy getting into.
