Hoarding jobs can be a test of patience, especially when our person is on site and anxious. It’s hard to ask for help in the first place—just imagine somebody you don’t know going through your things and now amplify that by all of our complicating factors with hoarding. We have to plan carefully for what we can do within our means and professional recommendation, while also being mindful about what the customer wants. This lovely person was a retired respiratory therapist and so much more than the accumulation of her things. There is unfortunately a correlation between health care professionals who once gave their all and the neglect of their own physical and mental health following experienced trauma, especially after Covid. She “wanted her life back!” And gave me permission to share a few things. My team helped to build her new bed she had ordered for the room make-over and I couldn’t be more proud of them. I am excited that she now has a clean comfortable place to sleep like she deserves!
