Have you ever heard of a "Fisk"? It's a metallic burial case which allows one to view only the face of the deceased. It was custom molded to the contour of the human body, featuring a distinct raised facial mask and sculpted metal arms on the lid. The small glass viewing plate on the face allowed loved ones to see the deceased without smelling odors or risking exposure to pathogens. Since they were heavy and bolted shut, they also helped deter 19th-century grave robbers. Additionally, it was a status symbol in the 1850's reserved for the wealthy due to the cost, which was upwards of $100. A pine coffin cost around $2

Have you ever wondered what kind of animals live or roam in cemeteries? Some animals that frequently burrow near or under headstones are squirrels, rabbits, groundhogs, moles, and mice. White tailed deer also love to roam and graze on the floral arrangements and manicured lawns! I've also personally encountered red foxes, raccoons, and skunks. But beware! Always check fences, stone crevices, and sunny spots because snakes love to bask in summer sun!
