Episode 10: The Last Crumb

Hello again.

I'm Dustin.

Today...

I found the last crumb.

Just one.

Tucked beneath the corner of a cabinet.

It wasn't much.

But to a dust bunny, it was hope.

I called Dusty and the kids over.

"We're going to be okay," I whispered.

Then...

I heard footsteps.

An HCS team member knelt down.

Moved the cabinet just enough.

Picked up the crumb.

And smiled.

Not because they caught us.

Because they knew someone would appreciate a clean space tomorrow morning.

That's when it hit me.

They've never been cleaning for us.

They've been cleaning for every employee who walks through these doors.

For every customer.

For every visitor.

For every business owner who takes pride in their workplace.

So...

I guess this is goodbye.

Tell Larry I'll miss him.

Today marked Session 2 of the HCS Leadership Academy: Cleaning Fundamentals & The HCS Standard.

Leadership begins with mastering the fundamentals.

Today our supervisors and future leaders didn't spend the day behind a desk, they spent it learning, practicing, coaching, and refining the cleaning techniques that define the Humphrey's Cleaning Service standard.

Every wipe, every dusting technique, every touchpoint, and every detail matters. Before someone can lead others, they have to understand why we do what we do and how to do it the right way.

Our Leadership Academy is about building leaders who don't simply inspect work, they know how to teach it, coach it, and inspire excellence in others.

Because at HCS, leadership isn't a title.

It's a standard.

We're investing in our people today so our clients experience exceptional service tomorrow.

There are a lot of ways to serve a community.

For us, it's not just about keeping businesses clean, it's about helping build a stronger community for the families who call it home.

We're honored to support the Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce's Back to School Family Fun Day by donating school supplies for local students. Every notebook, ruler, tissue pack, and glue stick represents an opportunity for a child to start the school year with confidence.

Thank you to the Chamber for organizing such an impactful event and for allowing us to be a small part of it. We encourage everyone to come out on Saturday, August 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Shippensburg Community Fairgrounds for a fun day celebrating our local students and families.

Community isn't just where we work, it's why we do what we do. ❤️

When we shared some of the school supplies we still needed, Humphrey's Cleaning Service, LLC stepped up in a big way and cleaned up our school supply needs!

Episode 9: The Fingerprints

Hello again.

I'm Dustin.

Today was... unsettling.

I watched them clean the glass doors.

Then they wiped the door handles.

The light switches.

The tables.

The countertops.

Even the fingerprints disappeared.

The fingerprints!

Who cleans fingerprints?

I asked Dusty what she thought.

She just looked at me and said,

"Dustin... I don't think they're cleaning for us."

She's right.

They're cleaning for the people who work here.

For the customers who walk through the front door.

For the employees who deserve a clean place to start every morning.

Maybe...

we were never supposed to feel comfortable here.

I still don't like HCS.

But...

I think I'm beginning to understand why everyone else does.

Today marks a major milestone for Humphrey's Cleaning Service.

We are proud to officially launch the HCS Leadership Academy.

Leadership isn't something we expect people to simply "figure out." Great leaders are developed through intentional training, real-world experience, accountability, and a commitment to continual growth.

Over the coming months, our supervisors and future leaders will work through a structured leadership curriculum focused on topics like: • Communication • Accountability • Coaching & Development • Safety • Decision Making • Company Values • Building High-Performing Teams

This isn't just about creating better managers—it's about creating leaders who inspire confidence, serve others well, and deliver an exceptional experience for both our employees and our clients.

Today was Session 1, and seeing our team gathered around the table, learning together, asking questions, and investing in their future reminded us why we do what we do.

At HCS, we believe that when we invest in our people, everyone wins.

Episode 8: The Checklist

Hello again.

I'm Dustin.

I finally figured out their secret.

It's not luck.

It's not magic.

It's a checklist.

Last night I watched from the ceiling as they cleaned the office.

When I thought they were finished...

they checked their work.

One cleaner even walked back to pick up a tiny crumb they had almost missed.

Who does that?!

Dusty looked at me and whispered,

"Dustin... I don't think they're ever going to stop."

I wanted to tell her everything would be okay.

But I couldn't.

Because for the first time...

I believed she was right.

If your hiding place depends on someone cutting corners...

Hello again.

I'm Dustin.

We survived.

Barely.

After last night's close call, we found a tiny hiding place above a ceiling tile.

Finally...

Somewhere safe.

Dusty smiled for the first time in days.

The kids actually slept.

"This is it," I thought.

"We've found our new home."

Then...

They came back.

The very next night.

Same time.

Same cart.

Same vacuum.

Same attention to detail.

Who does that?

Most cleaning companies get comfortable.

They start skipping things.

They miss corners.

They forget.

Not these people.

Every single night...

they come back.

I'm starting to realize something.

We're not hiding from cleaners.

We're hiding from consistency.

And that's much harder to escape.
