Thank you for the update Mr Zimmerman..and for looking out for all of us here in Mantua Twp..The data centers are not welcome in our Twp ..I see no reason why they can't be placed in areas away from people ..how about under or on either side of the commodore barry bridge along the river ..water source there and we don't have to be bothered ?
Thanks again

MAYOR ANNOUNCES OPPOSITION TO DATA CENTER DEVELOPMENT
Let me be perfectly clear, the Township Committee and I stand firmly in opposition to the introduction of Data Centers within our jurisdiction.
A Data Center is not a constitutionally protected use, and therefore, can be prohibited by way of a zoning ordinance.
At our April 13, 2026 Township Committee Meeting, we introduced Ordinance 9-2026 banning Data Centers.
We are taking an extremely proactive approach, and are getting-out in-front of the Data Center debacle occurring in other communities.
This ordinance will in-fact prohibit Data Centers as a zoning use in Section 230-44 of the Land Development Section of our Township Codes, and will in-turn, prohibit Data Centers in all zoning districts throughout Mantua Township.
Mantua is a community built for families - not for massive, industrial-scale data centers.
These facilities bring heavy energy demand, strain on our infrastructure, excessive water consumption, constant noise, and very little long-term benefit to our residents. They do not reflect our priorities, our character or our vision for responsible growth.
We support innovation - but not at the expense of our quality of life, our environment, or our taxpayers.
Mantua deserves some smart development that strengthens our community, protects our resources and truly serves our people. For these reasons and many others, we again stand firmly opposed to the introduction of data centers in our township.
Again, this was the first reading for Ordinance 9-2026. It has been referred to our Land Use Board for Master Plan Consistency review.
We anticipate the second reading for adoption of this ordinance at our May 11, 2026 Township Committee Meeting. If so desired, you will be provided with an opportunity to give public comment specifically relating to this matter during the second reading, and before adoption, on May 11th at 6 PM.
Respectfully,
Mayor Robert T. Zimmerman, MAS
