Ticks are dangerous primarily because they transmit pathogens, causing diseases like Lyme disease, powassan virus and now ALPHA GAL SYNDROME which seems to be on the rise. No doubt engineered. That said, be aware, be vigilant of your surroundings. Keep your grass cut short, esp if you get deer wandering through. Deer carry ticks. We can treat your yard. YOU have to treat your self, and your pets. Use preventative measures, know your surroundings. For dogs use Simparica Trio. Ask your vet. Do not use Hartz. If camping, hiking, walking the dog off the path, wear clothing treated with Deet or permethrin. DO NOT put the latter on your skin. There is clothing made with permethrin you can buy, it is pricey. DIY with Sawyer's. Again, DO NOT spray on your skin. Treat shoes, laces, socks, up to your knees, of course you'll be wearing long pants if in long grass. Wrap tape, sticky side up, around your socks (if in shorts) or pant legs. YES, they can drop from branches. YES they're a PITA.
