Mosquito Shield of Pinellas County

Mosquito Shield of Pinellas County The most comprehensive mosquito and tick control service available. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Mask: Mosquitoes are attracted to breathing.

That’s true with Mosquito Shield’s approach to our products. With 20 years experience developing our blend of all-natural oils, we use these oils and select EPA-registered control products for 3-pronged mosquito control:

1. Our proprietary mosquito product masks the CO2 you exhale so they can’t find you.

2. Repel: Our blend of natural oils irritates mosquitoes’ senses, driving them away. Regula

r visits and applications prevent mosquitoes and ticks from entering your yard.

3. Kill: We kill mosquitoes using select control products. The products we use, how much we use and when we apply them is an important job we don’t take lightly. With our Tailored Treatment System™ we use as little as necessary based on weather and mosquito population to control your property’s mosquitoes.

Although a mosquito is nowhere near the size of a dog, or nearly as cute, it can smell 1,000 times better. And all of that power has just one purpose, finding its next meal. Ever wonder how they know where to find you? This tiny bug has a sniffer tuned into the very breath you exhale.
The carbon dioxide draws them in. From there, they rely on their vision and finely tuned receptors to hone in on their prey. You’re settling in to enjoy your yard and suddenly you’re what’s for dinner.
It’s enough to drive you indoors. What else can you do? Grab a spray and douse yourself and your family in chemicals in an attempt to keep the bugs away?

Treasure Island, in partnership with Pinellas County Government, is working hard to reduce mosquito activity in our community. Results from last week’s traps set by the county show that most mosquitoes are Aedes aegypti—the species that breeds in small containers of standing water on private property. These are best managed by residents regularly dumping out water around their homes. Please remember to tip & toss standing water weekly!

Due to the higher number of salt marsh mosquitoes on Capri Boulevard, Pinellas County will treat affected areas on Tuesday, August 19, from 2:30 to 6:30 a.m. This will help reduce aggressive salt marsh mosquitoes, but please note it is not effective against container breeders like Aedes aegypti.

Keep doing your part. Your efforts make the most significant difference! Empty standing water weekly to help protect the community.

🦟 Community Reminder: Minimizing Mosquito Populations

🌧 With the arrival of summer and the rainy season, mosquito activity will increase—especially in areas with standing water. If there are any places around your house where water is collected, you may be raising mosquitoes.

💦 All mosquitoes need water for their early stages. Some lay their eggs in standing water where they hatch in just a few days. Others lay their eggs in other water-holding containers where they may remain unhatched for weeks or months until they are covered with water.

📲 Pinellas County addresses mosquito concerns through its SeeClickFix reporting system, allowing residents to easily report problem areas. You can also help reduce mosquito populations by checking your property regularly and eliminating any standing water in items like flowerpots, birdbaths, and gutters.

☑ Other best practices to reduce mosquito populations:

- Empty and properly maintain swimming pools.
- Empty, remove, cover or turn upside down any receptacle that would hold water — particularly buckets and trash cans.
- Empty plastic wading pools, children’s toys, trash cans, plant saucers and wheelbarrows.
- Get rid of old tires, tin cans, bottles, jars and other containers — or keep them empty.
- Repair leaky pipes and outside faucets; drain hoses frequently.
