Vomit stains and their lingering odor can be a nightmare for any homeowner. Whether it's due to a bout of illness, a rough night out, or a pet's accident, the smell can persist and make the environment unpleasant. Properly addressing this common household issue is essential not only for maintaining a clean home but also for ensuring a healthy living environment.
What You Need:
1. White vinegar
2. Baking soda
3. Hydrogen peroxide (3%)
4. Dish soap
5. Water
6. Clean towels or rags
7. A spray bottle
8. A brush or sponge
Step-by-Step Solution:
1. Blot the Area
Start by blotting up as much of the vomit as possible using clean towels or rags. Be careful not to rub, as this can push the substance deeper into the carpet fibers.
2. Prepare the Vinegar Solution
In a spray bottle, mix equal parts white vinegar and water. Spray the affected area generously to neutralize the odor.
3. Apply Baking Soda
Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over the damp area. This will help to absorb any remaining odor and moisture.
4. Let it Sit
Allow the baking soda to sit on the carpet for at least 15 minutes. For tougher odors, you may leave it on for a few hours or even overnight.
5. Prepare the Peroxide Solution
Mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide with 1 part water and add a small amount of dish soap. Gently stir to combine.
6. Apply the Peroxide Solution
Spray or gently pour the peroxide solution over the baking soda. Be careful with colored carpets, as hydrogen peroxide can have a bleaching effect. It's best to test a small hidden area first.
7. Scrub the Area
Using a brush or sponge, scrub the area thoroughly to lift any remaining particles and stains.
8. Blot and Rinse
Blot the area with clean towels to remove excess moisture. Follow up with a clean damp cloth to rinse away any soap residue.
9. Dry the Area
Allow the carpet to air dry completely. You can use a fan or open windows to speed up the drying process.

I noticed people are catching on to the viral laundry hacks and I would be less than professional if I did not speak on this with correction. In case you missed it, at the end of last 2023, God saw fit to bless me with a laundry care business and because of Him it has been enjoyable thus far! Part of my job is to ensure that you all are taking care of your garments correctly. Not all garments get fabric softener, not all items go in the dryer, etc. Dryer sheets is a NO NO! We don’t use them and this video tells us why! What is your favorite laundry hack?
