Wednesday Wisdom from Earthsmart! W**ds are coming!

What damage is our extreme heat wave causing?

Last week we talked about watering your trees to a deep level to keep them healthy. Today we need to consider the impact of dry, dead spots in your lawn. As our drought leaves bare spots in your grass, w**ds will likely take up that empty space. Once the w**ds have gained hold in damaged grass they will spread throughout your entire lawn if they are not stopped.

What damage is our extreme heat wave causing? Last week we talked about watering your lawns and shrubs to a deep level.

Today we need to send out a new warning. This kind of extended heat often has a huge impact on the death of your trees. Your pine trees are most susceptible to these drought stress situations. I would recommend taking your garden hose and slow watering for several hours. Move the hose to several locations around the tree at the dripline.

Happy HOT Wednesday from Earthsmart !

Extreme summer temperatures are with us for the next couple of weeks...... 100 degrees and above!

So,

If you had new sod or landscaping installed this year, you need to water heavy to combat the heat stress. Plants transpire to keep their leaves cool. Therefore, they need more water than normal to accomplish this task. So, more moisture is imperative for the next few days. I recommend 20-25 minutes for rotators and 15-18 on spray heads. Please remember watering is most effective in early morning in order to supply the plants with adequate moisture for the day.

Heavy watering schedule: 2 days on, 2 days off.

Any wilting generally means inadequate watering on your heavy water days due to timing issues or sprinkle issues. Call us for any issues or repair needs. 832-808-5818

Boy Howdy, it’s hot!!!!!!! And BUGS are loving it!

I’m seeing sod web worm moths. The one's I'm seeing are the adult egg layers. Bug damage begins on our lawns and looks like today's pictures. Don’t wait until you see damage. Call me today for a treatment. 832-808-5818

We have been having a great year. I want to thank everyone for the referrals and confidence in our abilities. It means a lot to me and my employees! So, thank you very much.

I’ve enclosed some photos today of our latest project. This one even surprised me. I have now officially done everything possible to do in the landscape business! An indoor atrium in a Katy home built in the 80’s. It originally had plants and a rock
garden but that proved difficult in a shady small atrium. So, we made a sitting area for morning coffee and the nightly card games.

NO Happy Wednesday because CHINCH BUGS are here!!!

CHINCH BUGS are here and eating lawns!!!! Please don’t ignore this menace. Remember these insects are deadly to your lawn. Also, I’m seeing sod webworm adult moths. These are egg layers and will start an infestation in your yard.
