Where do Fruit Flies Come from?

Reach for a banana, and what happens? A squadron of fruit flies takes to the air above the fruit bowl! But where the heck did they come from?

They probably didn’t come from your grocery store produce. They tend to wander into your home from the outside when they catch the scent of fruit that’s ripening, especially if it is starting to get a bit overripe. (In fact, fruit flies actually prefer wine and beer to fruit because they like food that has fermented.)

Ask us for tips and tricks to help prevent fruit flies. That is much easier than trying to eradicate a well established problem!

It’s not everyday you see a comet over the Georgia coast!

Kenny Nobles captured this image of “Comet C/2023 A3” over shrimp boats in Darien this weekend!

Skies remain clear for additional viewing opportunities this week. Look west about 45 minutes after sunset, best viewed with a telescope/nicer camera.
