Time for some ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ค ๐ญ๐๐ฅ๐ค. ๐ฃ
As you make plans to travel this summer, keep ticks on your mind...but off your skin. ๐ฆต
Ticks are blood-feeding arachnids that can vector a number of harmful, disease-causing pathogens. While we may not have high populations in Sarasota County, you can commonly encounter them in other parts of the state. ๐
Follow these tips to thwart ticks in their tracks:
๐ฅผ Dress in light colors, as dark colors are more attractive to ticks and other biting bugs
๐ Wear a long-sleeved shirt, pants, socks, and boots to protect your skin
๐ฅพ Tuck pant legs into socks or boots to limit possible entry points
๐ซ Avoid sitting or lying down in tall grassy areas
๐งด Apply an EPA-registered repellent, targeted toward ticks, on exposed skin
๐ Always do a tick check after spending time in tick-friendly habitat
๐ถ Donโt forget to check any dogs too, if they were outside with you! They may be harboring ticks in their fur.
