Ever wonder why lovebugs always seem to take over the roads twice a year? 🚗💨
Despite the old urban legend, they weren't created in a university lab! These famous Florida hitchhikers are completely natural.
So, where do they hide when they aren't splattered on your windshield?
🌿 Where they live: As larvae, lovebugs live right under our feet in the topmost layer of soil, under damp thatch, decaying grass clippings, and leaves. They love warm, humid areas like pastures, roadsides, and manicured lawns. 🍂 What they do: They are actually great for the environment! While in the dirt, the larvae act as nature's recyclers, eating dead vegetation and turning it into rich nutrients for the soil. ☀️ The Swarm: Once they become adults, they take to the skies in April/May and August/September for just a few weeks to mate—which is why you see them flying in pairs!
They might be a messy nuisance for your car's paint, but they're harmless to humans and pets. Keep your car washed, and remember: this season will be over before you know it! 🧼✨
