This is an example of Large Patch Fungus. It is caused by a strain of fungus called Rhizoctonia Solani. This fungus lives in the soil of warm season turfgrass during the fall and winter months in SW Florida. Large patch is easily identified by the circular yellow rings. The yellow outer edge is where the fungus is active. This is why it is very important to reduce watering in the cooler months. The good news is this type of fungus rarely kills the root system. Our company uses several different types of fungicides to deactivate the fungus. Unfortunately the damage left behind may not grow back until warmer weather returns.
