A Monterey homeowner called Smith's Pest Management after noticing new soil mounds across her backyard this month.

Our tech informed the homeowner that summer is a time when gophers and other burrowing pests are most active because there's an endless supply of roots and plants for them to feed on - and this causes them to dig and burrow, creating unsightly soil mounds.

For a week straight, a Walnut Creek homeowner woke up to find more patches of overturned turf across their yard.

They called Smith's Pest Management, and our tech came the next day. He identified the cause: it turns out raccoons were digging for grubs just below the yard surface.

We set live traps in the raccoons' active travel paths, checked them daily, and safely removed the animals from the property. The digging stopped after the second visit.

A Walnut Creek homeowner called Smith's Pest Management after their irrigation system stopped working.

Our tech opened the sprinkler valve boxes and found them completely packed with soil. Gophers had tunneled directly into the boxes and filled them with dirt, blocking the valves.

We cleared the debris, located the active tunnel runs, and set traps in the main gopher runs across the homeowner's yard.

Within two weeks, the gopher activity stopped, and the irrigation system was working normally again.

A San Jose homeowner called Smith's Pest Management after noticing several burrow holes near the edge of his concrete patio.

Our tech inspected the area, spotted a ground squirrel near one of the holes, and mapped how far the tunnels extended under the hardscaping.

He placed tube traps in the main tunnels to stop the squirrels before the dry soil let the burrows spread further.

After a few weeks, the burrows went quiet, and no new holes appeared near the patio.
