FAQ Friday, and this is the finale of our Nail Series. The question: "What happens if shingles are nailed too high? And what nails do you use?"

Every shingle has a nail line printed on it by the manufacturer. That line is not a suggestion. It is the exact spot where your nails also catch the top edge of the shingle below it.

High nailing means the nails go in above that line. When that happens, the fasteners miss the course underneath, so each shingle is basically held by half the nails it should have. The result is shingles that slip, blow off in wind, and a manufacturer warranty that is voided. It is one of the most common defects we find on a cheap, rushed install.

We nail on the line, every course. And we use proper corrosion-resistant roofing nails, not staples and not the cheapest brights that rust out. As GAF Certified Plus contractors, we can also back qualifying roofs with the GAF Silver Pledge warranty.

If your roof was recently done and you are not sure it was nailed right, get a second opinion. We are happy to take an honest look.

That wraps the Nail Series. Missed a part? Comment NAILS and we will send you Parts 1 and 2.

Testimonial Thursday

A big thank you to Mark Todd for taking the time to leave this review for Carlos and our team at G and Bros.

Even though Mark did not move forward with us for the service he needed, he still shared kind words about the experience he had. That says a lot. He mentioned that Carlos did an excellent job assessing the problem, clearly explaining the leak, and walking him through the repair steps.

To us, that matters just as much as the job itself. We always want homeowners in Salisbury, MD 21801, Fruitland, MD 21826, and across the Eastern Shore to feel informed, respected, and never pressured.

If you need help with a roof leak in Salisbury, MD, a roof repair in Fruitland, MD, or a professional roof assessment anywhere nearby, give G and Bros a call.

Real talk from a job site this week.

See that rotten wood behind the chimney? Here is what happened. Whoever did this roof before us never installed a cricket behind the chimney.

A cricket is that little peaked ridge on the up-slope side of a chimney. Its whole job is to split the water and send it around the chimney instead of letting it pool behind it. No cricket means the water just sits there, finds its way in, and over time it rots the wood right out. That is exactly what we found here.

And it did not stop there. When we tore into it, there was no flashing and no ice and water shield behind the siding either. All the stuff that actually protects your home from water, just left out.

This is the honest reason we keep saying it: hire a contractor who does it right. To your specs, to code, and to the manufacturer's requirements. The corners a cheap crew cuts are the ones you never see, until the damage is done.

We are fixing this one the right way. Want an honest second opinion on your own roof or chimney? We are more than happy to take a look. Free inspections.

Happy Monday, Eastern Shore.

"If you can't outplay them, outwork them." — Ben Hogan

We are big believers in this one. You do not have to be the flashiest or the biggest. You just have to show up, work hard, and take care of people. That is how we have always done it.

Have a great week, everyone.

FAQ Friday, Part 2 of our Nail Series. Last week we talked nail count. This week: "Do you hand-nail or use a nail gun?"

Here is the honest answer. Both can be great, when they are done right. The tool is not the problem. Care is the whole game.

A nail gun is only as good as its air pressure. Set it too high and the nail overdrives, cutting straight through the shingle and breaking the seal that holds it down. Set it too low and the nail sits proud, so the shingle above never lays flat. Either way, that shingle is now a weak spot.

Guess when air pressure gets ignored. When a crew is rushing to finish a cheap job. A careful installer stops and checks nail depth as they go. That is the difference you are really paying for.

So do not just ask hand or gun. Ask who is checking the work. And if you want a second opinion on an install, we are happy to look, no pressure.

Comment NAILS and we will tag you for Part 3, the finale, next Friday.

Trust Thursday: meet the man who started it all.

This is Guillermo Molina Reyes, our founder and owner. G and Bros began with his dream, his hands, and over 25 years of roofing experience. Everything we are today started with him.

What we are proudest of is that he never stepped back. He is still on the job sites, still checking the work, still shaking hands with the same customers he has taken care of for years. A lot of our homeowners know him by name because he shows up, every single time.

He is our founder, our boss, and our dad. Family-owned, built on vision, hard work, and family values, right here on the Eastern Shore. When you hire G and Bros, this is the standard behind your roof.

Thank you for everything you built. We are proud to carry it forward.

FAQ Friday, and this one kicks off our Nail Series. Question: "How many nails per shingle do you use?"

Short answer, we use six. Here is why that matters.

The bare minimum a shingle needs is four nails. It passes, it looks fine at signing, and it is faster to install. Six nails is the high wind standard, and it is what GAF requires to back your shingles with their wind warranty.

Out here on the Eastern Shore we get nor'easters and that steady Ocean City wind. Six nails give the shingle two more points of hold in the exact spots that take the beating. More nails means better wind resistance, and it keeps your warranty valid.

When a crew is racing to hit a low price, one of the fastest corners to cut is nails. You will not see it from the ground. You feel it the first bad storm.

So if you are comparing bids, ask each company how many nails per shingle they use. It is a simple question with a big answer. And if you want a second set of eyes on your roof, we are happy to take a look, no pressure.

Comment NAILS and we will tag you for Part 2 next Friday.
