Thanks for stopping in Randy
Custom Detail was establish in the spring of 1992 with help of family and friends to turn my passion and hobby for Boats and RVs into a business I love doing and can't wait to start each day. We started as a mobile b
usiness, but with Oregon weather being what it is, we worked from our garage, but as the boats became bigger & wider it was clear we needed more room. So we went shopping for a new facility and found a new home, shop and a Christmas tree farm in the process. Now we have a place to work year round, consequently we no longer offer full mobile service. We are the Boat and RV Detailing Expert, not a car detailer that works on Boats and RVs. We may only work on 1 or 2 cars or trucks a month, and only for private party customers, not car dealers! Since 1992, Custom Detail has been the Willamette Valley's premiere boat and RV appearance restoration shop. Randy Lowe, owner and master detailer, has over 40 years of experience with boats and RVs. How it all started:
The passion for boats started back in the early '70s after returning from the service. I went to work for a boat manufacturer here in Oregon and worked my way up through all the jobs in the plant and to be in-charge of final fit and finish, where we polished and fixed any imperfections. But that all ended when I developed a sensitivity to the fiberglass woolly boogers. Even now, I have to make sure all my shop clothes are 100% cotton! One of the side benefits of the job was in the summer time after work; we could take the demo boats out for a ski ride. I was hooked and have been a avid boat owner since! The RVs started in the mid '70s when they started using fiberglass-end caps and a boat customer asked (it was a part-time side job then) if I could do something with his motor home. The rest is history. I have been at this a long time, so I stay steady all year round, but I'm always buried from March to July and hire some help. As for boats to RVs, it's about 50/50. For one month, it's all boats and another, it's all RVs. I think the continuing success of my business is because I'm a boat and RV owner, and I use them to promote my business. We have our online of washes, polishes, waxes and cleaners just for RVs and boats. We belong to Detail Pros network, which is an elite by-invitation-only network of detail professionals, made up of independent detailers from around the country. Our goal is to educate the customer about our industry and the value of a professional detail. We also network as a group, sometimes on a daily basis, about new products, techniques and marketing. We help our fellow members with problems that arise in their day-to-day operations as well. We also help customers with all of their boat and RV questions.
