🦟🌿 Did you know that crane flies are often mistaken for mosquitoes, but they’re actually harmless? We’ve been getting a lot of pest control calls about these little critters lately, so let’s clear up some common myths!

Crane flies are a nuisance , but they don’t bite! They’re often found near water sources, especially during the spring season, but they won’t hurt you.

Their appearance can be alarming, but they typically only live for a few days to a couple of weeks. They’re busy mating and laying eggs to continue the cycle!

If you see them around your yard, there’s no need to panic! If you have any questions about craneflies or pests in general, feel free to reach out! 🌍💚

Fun Facts about Mosquitoes and Cold Weather:

Here is a breakdown of the facts behind the post:

🦟 Mosquitoes are cold-blooded insects and cannot regulate their body temperature. Female Mosquitoes Lay Eggs: A single female mosquito can lay 100–300 eggs, sometimes up to 500 in her lifetime, usually after a blood meal.

❄️ Sensing the Cold & Survival: Many mosquito species survive the winter as eggs, rather than adults, by entering a state of diapause (a type of insect hibernation). These eggs are incredibly hardy and can survive dry, freezing conditions for months, or even years in some cases.

☀️ Hatching When It Warms Up: When temperatures rise and the eggs are covered by water (spring rains, melting snow, or, as mentioned in the post, simply warm weather), they hatch.

💥 Abundance at the Same Time: Because countless dormant eggs are all waiting for the same, initial, warm, wet conditions of spring, they hatch almost simultaneously. This results in a massive, simultaneous "hatch-off" or "boom" of larvae, leading to a sudden surge in adult mosquitoes about 7-10 days later.

❄️ **Does Cold Weather Kill Mosquitoes?** 🦟

As winter arrives, many wonder if freezing temperatures put an end to those pesky mosquitoes. As the temperature drops, female mosquitoes are busy laying their eggs to survive the cold months ahead! 🥶🌼 When warmer weather arrives, those little eggs will hatch, bringing back the buzz! 🥶 Some species can survive in a dormant state during winter. They hide in sheltered spots and emerge when temperatures warm up! 🌡️

Stay prepared and keep your home mosquito-free! 🏡✨
