Confession: A surprising number of people clean because the house cleaner is coming.

Please don't spend an hour cleaning so nobody discovers that your house needed cleaning. 😄

You do not need to vacuum, mop, dust, scrub the bathroom, or wipe down the kitchen before your cleaning appointment.

What helps is preparing, not pre-cleaning.

Before your cleaner arrives:
• Pick clothing, toys, shoes, and other personal items up from the floors
• Clear surfaces you actually want cleaned
• Put away fragile or valuable belongings
• Make sure they can get into the house
• Secure pets if necessary
• Share any important priorities or special instructions

That's it.

The goal is simply to give the cleaning professional access to the areas you want cleaned.

Company coming over?
Here is your permission slip to not clean the entire house.
When guests are on the way, focus on the spaces they will actually use:
1. Entryway — Clear shoes, mail, bags, and anything people have to step around.
2. Guest bathroom — Clean the toilet, sink, mirror, counter, and floor. Put out a fresh hand towel.
3. Kitchen — Clear the counters, wash the dishes, wipe surfaces, and take out the trash.
4. Living room — Pick up clutter, straighten the pillows, dust visible surfaces, and vacuum.
5. Floors — Especially the high-traffic areas connecting all of those spaces.
And the rooms your guests will never enter?
Close. The. Door.
Your home does not need to look untouched by human life. It just needs to feel clean, comfortable, and welcoming.

Spring cleaning gets all the attention, but I think fall cleaning is underrated.

Summer is busy. Kids are home. People travel. Windows stay open. Stuff somehow migrates into every corner of the house.

Then September rolls around and suddenly we're heading toward the holidays.

A few things worth adding to your fall reset:

• Declutter the places where everything gets dropped
• Give the kitchen and bathrooms some extra attention
• Dust ceiling fans, blinds and baseboards
• Vacuum underneath furniture and rugs
• Clean the windows in the rooms you use most
• Wash the bedding that doesn't make it into the regular laundry rotation
• Swap out seasonal clothes and donate what you're not using

Does your house need a regular cleaning or a deep cleaning?

**The Biggest Cleaning Mistake Most People Make**
