No joke, this was my basement a few years back when my wife Amanda and I were renting in Rockford.

Crazy part is much of it can be prevented with just a little attention now while the weather is warmer.

Most water damage doesn’t start with a storm.
It starts with what homeowners ignore before the rain ever hits.

While the weather is warm, here’s how to prepare before rainy season:
1. Clear your gutters.
2. Extend downspouts 5 to 10 feet away from the foundation.
3. Make sure the ground slopes away from your home.
4. Seal any visible foundation cracks.
5. Install window well covers.
6. Test your sump pump to make sure it’s working properly.

Do these now, and you dramatically lower your chances of dealing with water in your basement later.
