☀️ Septic Saturday ☀️
Did you know your septic system works much harder during the summer months?

More guests. More showers. More laundry. More cooking. More water use.

Summer activity puts extra stress on septic tanks and cesspools across Long Island — especially in seasonal homes and vacation rentals.

Signs your system may already be struggling:
⚠️ Slow drains
⚠️ Gurgling toilets
⚠️ Wet areas in the yard
⚠️ Strong odors

Preventative maintenance now can help avoid an emergency during the busiest weekends of the year.

📞 If your system hasn’t been pumped in several years, don’t wait until it backs up.

🐝🚛 Bee Septic Smart: Why Does My Septic Smell Outside?

🔍 The Quick Answer:

Outdoor septic odors are usually a warning sign that your system needs attention.

⚠️ Common Causes:

✔️ Full septic tank or cesspool
✔️ High groundwater levels
✔️ Blocked plumbing vents
✔️ Overloaded system from guests or extra water use

💡 Suffolk County Tip:

Warm summer temperatures on Long Island can make septic odors much stronger — especially after rain.

💸 Why It Matters:

A smell today can turn into a costly backup tomorrow.

✅ What To Do:

If you smell sewage outside your home, it’s best to have your system checked early.

🚨 Septic Saturday 🚨
When it comes to your septic system, experience matters — especially here on Eastern Long Island. From high water tables and sandy soil to seasonal homes and busy summer weekends, local systems face challenges that companies from outside the area may not fully understand.

Choosing a trusted local septic company means:
✅ Faster response times
✅ Knowledge of local conditions and regulations
✅ Proper maintenance recommendations
✅ Honest service from people who live and work in your community

At Clifford’s Cesspool Service, we’ve seen firsthand how regular maintenance and proper care can help homeowners avoid expensive emergencies during the busy summer season.

If it’s been 3+ years since your last pumping, now is the perfect time to schedule service before summer traffic and extra house guests put added strain on your system.

📞 Don’t wait for a backup to find out there’s a problem.

🐝 Bee Septic Smart: Can Heavy Rain Cause Septic Problems on Long Island?

🔍 The Quick Answer:

Yes — especially here in Suffolk County where high groundwater and sandy soil can quickly affect septic systems.

⚠️ What Happens After Heavy Rain:

✔️ Saturated ground slows drainage
✔️ Septic systems can become overloaded
✔️ Tanks may back up into the home
✔️ Wet spots and odors can appear in the yard

💡 Suffolk County Tip:
Homes near the bays, creeks, and shoreline areas on the East End are especially vulnerable after long periods of rain.

✅ What To Do:
If your drains are suddenly slow or your yard smells after rain, don’t wait for a backup.

To commemorate Memorial Day 2026, the Avenue of Flags will be displayed across Calverton National Cemetery to honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Nation. The Avenue of Flags will remain on display alongside roadways throughout the entire cemetery from May 22 until June 5, 2026.

This year’s gravesite flag decoration honoring Veterans will take place on Saturday, May 23 beginning at 9:30 a.m., rain or shine. Flag placement will be accomplished by pre-registered Scout Units, Veteran Service Organizations, and volunteers. A brief (optional) ceremony to thank volunteers will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., weather permitting. Flag pickup will occur May 30, weather dependent. For more information on gravesite flag placement or to register to volunteer, please contact Frank Bailey at [email protected].

Our Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m. in the assembly area at the end of Princeton Boulevard. The North Shore Community Band will be performing as a patriotic tribute to our nation’s heroes. We hope you can join us!

Please take a moment to visit the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Legacy Memorial site, which allows family and friends to honor Veterans with photos, documents, and biographical sketches: https://www.va.gov/remember

As you head out this Memorial Day weekend, please slow down and stay alert on our roads. 🐢

This is a busy time for wildlife, especially turtles crossing to nesting sites and newborn fawns exploring alongside their mothers. A few extra seconds of caution can save a life. Watch for movement near road edges, obey speed limits, and remember that many wild animals are most active at dawn and dusk.

If you see a turtle crossing and it’s safe to help, move it in the direction it was heading, never relocate it elsewhere. And if you spot a fawn alone, don’t worry — mom is usually nearby and waiting for people to leave before returning. Thank you for helping keep both people and wildlife safe this holiday weekend. 💚

🐝 Bee Septic Smart: “How often should I pump my septic tank?”

This is one of the MOST common questions we get 👇

✔ Typical homes: every 2–3 years
✔ Seasonal homes: depends on usage
✔ High-traffic homes: may need more frequent service

On the North & South Fork, summer usage alone can fill a tank faster than you think.

Waiting too long can lead to:
❌ Backups
❌ Odors
❌ System damage

📞 The best schedule? The one that prevents problems.
