🏡 VIRGINIA RENTERS: KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
Beginning July 1, 2026, Virginia is extending the notice period for nonpayment of rent from 5 days to 14 days.
What does this mean for you?
💜 More time to catch up on rent
💜 More time to apply for emergency rental assistance
💜 More time to communicate with your landlord
💜 More opportunity to avoid an eviction filing
But it's important to understand what this law does NOT do:
📌 It does NOT erase rent that is owed.
📌 It does NOT stop an eviction forever.
📌 If rent remains unpaid after the 14-day notice period, the landlord may still move forward with legal action.

✔ Apply for available assistance programs
✔ Keep copies of all notices and communications
✔ Seek legal or housing support before court involvement
