Did you know that 200 years ago, the first water was pumped to a wooden reservoir and distributed to Cincinnati residents on July 3, 1821? The Front Street Pump station consisted of two treadmill-driven plunger-type pumps that were operated by horses or oxen. The pump was made entirely of wood and lifted water to the 54,000-gallon wooden reservoir on the hillside of South Third Street near Mt. Adams.
