Gotta love Reno weather. Earlier this week it was Spring and now we’re in the 3rd winter. Literally in 10 minutes today we had Hail, Heavy Rain and Snow. But it’s Friday and that brings our Facebook Friday deal and today’s carpet spotter.

𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟐: 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐝𝐞

When the kids were growing up Hydrogen Peroxide got a lot of use in our home. This spotter can get out protein stains including grass or food so it’s also good for use with laundry. Hydrogen Peroxide has the potential to bleach some colors, so you do need to test in a hidden area like your closet.
For protein stains carpets we use undiluted 3% Hydrogen Peroxide directly on a protein spot. Obviously, you can mix it weaker depending on the stain and how it affects your carpet color. For an additional kick you can add a drop or two of Dawn dish soap. Remember always to blot not rub.

It was a gorgeous day today and even though the weatherman said tomorrow would be colder I chose to think that Spring was here for real. And Spring brings Spring cleaning. So in honor of Spring, we would like to share a couple of our favorite spotters with you.

𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏: 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫

The first is the one my mom always had on standby. It’s often used for food or drink spills, pet stains or mineral based stains but when someone was sick and made a mess on the floor the vinegar spray bottle came out.

For the mix we recommend 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water but you can mix it as strong as 1 to 1. It’s just that simple. If you want to lessen the strong vinegar smell you can add either lemon or orange zest (if you’re fancy) or your favorite “essential oil” fragrance. Another option is to add a couple drops of Dawn dish soap. However you mix it this is one spotter that we always have handy.

Clients often ask me how to remove stains from carpet between cleanings. So, if you’ve spilled your drink and now you want to get that spot out. Here’s our 3 Step solution to do that.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟏: 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭.

Using a clean rag and your thumb, start at the edge of the spot and press and hold around the edges working your way toward the middle. Resist the urge to rub as that will only spread the stain and could ruin your carpet. For some stains just the clean rag will do but for most you will need one of our recommended Spotters. A mixture of Vinegar and water for example can be a great spotter for general dirt or slightly acidic stains like coffee or tea. Again, 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐓𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 is the key. For the first step lightly spray the area and then press down and hold until you no longer pick up color.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟐: 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐚𝐤.

If step one didn’t completely remove the stain, we want to use the spotter to get the spot wet… but not too wet. Think “Saturate but don’t Soak”. We don’t want to get the base of the carpet wet, just the top area where the stain is. Let that sit for 5-10 minutes (depending upon the spotter) to get to work on the stain. This time using a new clean rag and the heel of your hand blot the stain again from the outside in. Continue until the stain is gone repeating the process if necessary.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟑: 𝐁𝐮𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧.

Once the stain is completely removed lightly spray a clean area of your rag with the spotter and without pushing down hard, lightly buff the area of the spill to blend in the newly cleaned area with the carpet around it. Make sure to use a light touch and to go more than just one direction. (Think North-South and East-West).
While Spot cleaning between professional cleanings is a good way to keep your carpet fresh and clean it’s not a good option to clean your whole carpet. For that you’ll want to hire a pro!

𝐖𝐨𝐰!! After the crazy weather we had this weekend, now we must get back to the grind of work. I wanted to share with you the five best reasons to use our fantastic VLM cleaning system.

No matter how careful and meticulous we are, over time most carpeting will attract a stain or two. One oops with a wine glass or juice box .
But with VLM cleaning, the "foam" part, which is the special shampoo that we use, acts like its own army of tiny sponges to suck up stains, dirt, grime, and detritus.
So in nearly every case, what this means is that you don't have to pay extra for special spotting to ensure the stains come out. Your personal foam army will bond with each particle of dirt or detritus in your carpet.
