Celebrating AAPI Heritage & Mental Health Awareness
This May, Redmond Cleaning Co. is proud to honor the powerful contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders who’ve shaped our communities—and remind everyone of the importance of mental health and inclusion.
Here are just a few inspiring individuals who have paved the way:
Ruby Chow – The first Asian American elected to the King County Council. Ruby was a trailblazer in politics and a strong advocate for Chinese American representation in Washington. She also ran one of Seattle’s first Chinese restaurants and gave Bruce Lee his first job in the U.S.
Sina Sam (Packer) – A Cambodian-American activist and former commissioner on the Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs. Sina is deeply involved in uplifting refugee communities and promoting mental health equity, particularly for Southeast Asian and immigrant survivors of trauma.
Pramila Jayapal – The first South Asian American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Based in Seattle, she has been a fierce advocate for immigrant rights, healthcare access, and mental health support, especially for marginalized communities.
Let’s keep talking about mental health, lifting each other up, and learning from those who’ve helped pave the way.
