Incident Update: The Rancho Cucamonga Fire District recently responded to a reported garage fire. Upon arrival, the crew found an actively burning garage fire that was extending into the kitchen. Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. After investigation, it is suspected the fire ignited due to the clothes dryer.
This is not the only clothes dryer related incident the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District has responded to this year. There are multiple reasons why dryer incidents occur, but you can prevent a clothes dryer fire in your home by following these safety tips:
🔸Have your dryer installed and serviced by a professional.
🔸Do not use the dryer without a lint filter. Clean the lint filter before and after each cycle.
🔸Clean the back of your dryer where lint can build up.
🔸Check the dryer's venting system to ensure the hose is not damaged, crushed or restricted.
🔸Make sure the outdoor vent covering opens when the dryer is on.
🔸If you smell gas or experience a gas leak from any fueled appliance, get everyone out of the house and call 9-1-1.
