๐ฟ Spring pollen season in the Triangle is one of the longest in the country โ and it's not just the yellow pine dust you can see. Oak, grass, and ragweed pollens follow it from February through October, and most of them are invisible.
We just published a room-by-room guide to pollen home cleaning for Raleigh, Durham, and Cary homeowners โ including where pollen actually accumulates inside (window tracks, ceiling fan blades, HVAC vents, and bedding all get overlooked), how to remove it without adding chemical irritants, and what to do differently by room.
A few things in the guide that might change how you clean this season:
๐งน Dry sweeping redistributes pollen into the air before you can capture it. A damp microfiber mop is meaningfully more effective during pollen season.
๐ Ceiling fan blades accumulate pollen all winter. The first time you run the fan in spring, that pollen goes airborne. Wipe the blades before you turn it on โ not after.
๐ฌ๏ธ Standard vacuums without HEPA filters pick up pollen and exhaust a portion back into the room. It's one of the higher-impact equipment changes you can make if allergies are a concern in your household.
