As summer gives way to fall, pest will be seeking shelter inside our homes. Here are some tips to help keep your home pest free!

1.) Seal Cracks and Gaps: As temperatures drop, pests like rodents, spiders, and insects seek warmer spaces indoors. Carefully inspect your home’s exterior, including windows, doors, and the foundation, for any cracks or gaps. Use caulk or weatherstripping to seal these openings, preventing pests from entering.

2.) Clear Out Gutters and Downspouts: Fallen leaves and debris in your gutters can create a perfect environment for pests to nest. Regularly clean out your gutters and downspouts to remove blockages, ensuring water doesn’t pool near your foundation, which can attract pests.

3.) Store Firewood Away from the Home: Firewood is a common hiding place for pests like termites, ants, and rodents. Keep your firewood at least 20 feet away from your home and store it off the ground to minimize the risk of pests making their way into your home.

4.) Trim Back Trees and Shrubs: Overhanging branches and dense shrubs close to your home provide easy access for pests like ants, rodents, and insects. Trim back any vegetation that touches your house, especially near the roof and windows, to create a barrier against pests.

5.) Inspect and Repair Screens: Torn or damaged screens on windows and doors provide an easy entry point for pests. Check all screens in your home and repair any tears or holes. This simple step can prevent flying insects and other pests from invading your indoor space.

Black and Red Fall Invaders Are Coming Alabama!😬🤨

Boxelder bugs are often seen congregating on the sunny sides of homes during the fall as they search for a place to overwinter. These black and red insects can be a nuisance if they make their way indoors.

To prevent an invasion, seal any gaps and cracks around windows, doors, and siding. Consider removing boxelder trees from your yard if they’re attracting these bugs. If they do get inside, use a vacuum to remove them without crushing, as they can leave stains. These tips can help you keep your home boxelder bug-free this fall!
