“What’s the worst part of your job?”
A question I get asked frequently but never really have an answer to because, truth be told, I love my job. I love my clients, I love my team, I love this company, and yes, I even love the nitty gritty cleaning part.
But today, I have an answer. The worst part of my job isn’t the chemicals I know I’m breathing in, the constant sweating regardless of the temperature because of the constant physical labor, it isn’t even the truly disgusting situations I often find myself in.
I can’t speak for my team but for me the absolute worst part of my job is walking into an empty house that once occupied a client you genuinely loved seeing and cared for, but now they live in Heaven. It’s seeing that empty chair they sat in watching soap operas and game shows while you were there cleaning. It’s the silence of that space which was once full of chatter and laughter about silly things (and lots of talk about who was cheating on who in the soap operas lol)
Forming those relationships with people is the BEST part of my job. Getting to say “I’ll see you next week” and genuinely looking forward to that next visit/clean. But man does it suck when I can’t say it anymore.
If you’re a client, know you matter to us. Probably more than you realize.
I’ll see ya later, alligator.
