PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT: SOFT SCRUB
Soft Scrub has been a staple in the cleaning world for years, especially when it comes to cutting through soap scum, grease, grime, hard water buildup, and stuck-on messes without the harsh scratching of traditional powdered abrasives. But what actually is it, and how should it really be used?
WHAT IS SOFT SCRUB?
Soft Scrub is a liquid cream cleanser made with mild abrasives suspended in a thick cleaning formula. Unlike dry abrasive powders, the creamy consistency helps reduce scratching while still giving enough scrubbing power to remove buildup and stains.
WHAT IS SOFT SCRUB MADE OF?
Ingredients can vary slightly depending on the version, but most Soft Scrub products contain:
• Calcium carbonate or silica – mild abrasives that help scrub away buildup
• Surfactants – help break down grease and oils
• Sodium hypochlorite (in bleach versions) – whitening and stain removal
• Thickening agents – give it the creamy texture
• Fragrance and stabilizers
Some versions contain bleach, while others are bleach-free, so always read the label before use.
WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?
Soft Scrub works best on surfaces that need a little extra scrubbing power without heavy-duty sanding or scraping.
Great for:
• Bathtubs
• Sinks
• Toilets
• Fiberglass showers
• Stovetops
• Certain countertops
• Soap scum buildup
• Hard water deposits
• Greasy buildup around handles and appliances
PROFESSIONAL TIP:
Soft Scrub works best when paired with a non-scratch sponge, microfiber, or soft scrub brush. Letting it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing helps loosen buildup so you don’t have to scrub as aggressively.
SURFACES TO AVOID USING IT ON
Even though it’s considered a “mild abrasive,” it is STILL abrasive.
Avoid using Soft Scrub on:
• Natural stone (granite, marble, travertine)
• Unsealed stone surfaces
• Delicate polished metals
• High-gloss finished surfaces
• Wood surfaces
• Some coated stainless steel appliances
• Acrylic surfaces if heavily scrubbed
• Anything easily scratched or etched
COMMON MYTH:
“Soft Scrub is non-scratch on everything.”
Not true. “Non-scratch” depends on BOTH the product and the surface you’re using it on. A soft abrasive can still dull finishes over time, especially on newer coated appliances and delicate materials.
WHY PROFESSIONALS LIKE IT
One reason many cleaners still keep Soft Scrub in their cleaning caddy is because it’s versatile. It gives you more scrubbing power than an all-purpose cleaner but is still easier to control than harsh powders or aggressive chemicals.
