First Aid for Sting Victims:

- if a bee or other insect stings someone, First Look for signs of dizziness or difficulty breathing. If the victim appears to feel normal and has been stung only once, basic first-aid is all that is needed.

- remove the Stinger with a sideways scraping movement. Use a fingernail, credit card, or dull knife. This will prevent more Venom from being pumped in by the Venom sac.

- when possible, apply a paste of baking soda and cold cream or of wet salt within 5 minutes of the sting. Apply an ice pack to relieve pain. Use calamine lotion to help relieve itching.

- watch for any unusual symptoms. Examples include difficulty breathing or the appearance of red blotches anywhere on the body within 2 to 20 minutes. If the victim has trouble breathing, he or she is experiencing a serious allergic reaction. The person must receive medical attention within 15 to 20 minutes.

- if an insect stings a person with health problems, seek medical attention immediately. Stay with the victim until help arrives.
