25 years ago today, our nation was forever changed.
On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken in a horrific act of terrorism. Today, we remember every person who went to work, boarded a plane, or began an ordinary morning, never knowing they would not return home.
We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, paramedics, military personnel, and countless heroes who ran toward danger while others were running away. We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continued to suffer from the lasting effects of that day.
We remember the families who lost fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and colleagues. Their lives, their stories, and their loved ones must never be forgotten.
We also honor the extraordinary courage of the passengers and crew aboard United Airlines Flight 93. After learning what was happening, these brave souls made the unimaginable decision to fight back against the hijackers. Their plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, before it could reach its intended target, believed to have been the United States Capitol. They knew what their actions could cost them, yet they stood together and sacrificed their lives to save countless others. Their bravery still brings tears to my eyes and always will.
We honor the brave men and women who answered the call to serve and defend our country in the years that followed.
September 11 reminds us that tomorrow is never promised. Hug your loved ones a little tighter. Say “I love you.” Let go of the arguments that do not matter. Choose kindness, forgiveness, gratitude, and live each day with purpose.
25 years later, we still remember. We still honor. We will never forget.
One nation under God.
God bless the United States of America, and God bless you. 🇺🇸
